Terms of Use
Serene Notes is a free notes app, run by Jakob Gschwendtner as a private, non-commercial project. These terms apply when you use it. By signing in, you agree to them. How your data is handled is explained in the Privacy Policy.
Who can use it
You need to be at least 14 years old and need a Google account to sign in. The app is free. There are no paid plans, and you don't owe anything for using it.
Your notes
- Your notes are yours. The app only stores, copies and shows them as far as it needs to work: saving them, keeping earlier versions and showing them to you.
- Built-in storage holds up to 50 MB per account, earlier versions included, and 10,000 notes and folders. With Dropbox storage, only your Dropbox limits how much you can keep.
- You are responsible for what you store. Don't use the app for anything illegal, to store content that infringes other people's rights, or to harm the app or other users, for example by overloading it or getting into other accounts.
- Notes are private. Nobody else can see them, and they aren't read or checked, unless the law requires it or you ask for help with a problem.
No guarantee
The app is a free project, offered as it is. It may be unavailable at times, features can change, and data can be lost through bugs or outages. Keep your own copies of anything important: Settings → Export downloads all your notes, and with Dropbox storage your notes are plain files in your own Dropbox.
Liability
Jakob Gschwendtner is only liable for damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence. This doesn't limit liability for personal injury, or anywhere else the law doesn't allow it to be limited.
Ending
- You can stop at any time by deleting your account in Settings.
- An account that seriously breaks these terms can be closed. Where possible, you'll get an email first.
- The app can be shut down. You'll get an email at least 30 days before, so you have time to export your notes.
Changes
If these terms change in a way that matters to you, you'll be told by email or in the app before the change applies. If you don't agree, you can export your notes and delete your account. Last updated: 30 October 2026.
Law
Austrian law applies, without its conflict-of-law rules. If you live in another country, the consumer protection rules of that country that can't be waived still apply.
